News:Scientists accidentally invent color blindness curing glasses

Lots of creators accidentally stumble upon their greatest inventions, from potato chips to stainless steel. Now, while trying to develop a pair of protective surgery eyewear, a Berkeley laboratory has inadvertently created a solution for color blindness.Check out this video testimonial for the EnChroma CX functional eyewear for color blindness correction. There are multiple kinds of color blindness which leave victims with various ranges of colors they can perceive. For example, Marc Drucker has a genetic defect that pushes his red and green eye cones too close together muddying his vision of those spectrums. For him, traffic lights are especially challenging. However, while wearing the EnChroma CX sunglasses, Drucker can suddenly see the bright orange of a traffic cone or the individuals green leaves of a tree.

“The glasses work by selectively removing certain wavelengths between the red and green cones that allow them to be in essence pushed apart again,” said Don McPherson, EnChroma’s VP of products in an interview with CBS. McPherson only learned about this potential use after a colorblind friend tried the glasses on and discovered the restorative effect.

With this news, naturally EnChroma plans to keep manufacturing the sunglasses along with regular glasses with similar properties. So if you or anybody you know suffers from color blindness, head over to EnChroma’s website to purchase a pair. Maybe once enough of them get out there we can finally put this stupid blue/black/white/gold dress color Internet debate to rest. Enough is enough!. By  Feb. 28, 2015

News:Google just spent $25 million to own the entire .app domain

Google just dumped $25 million on an acquisition, but the money wasn’t spent on a hot new startup. No, all that cash was earmarked for a period and three little letters.
ICANN has reported that Google is now the official owner of the .app Top Level Domain (TLD). It was one of the most-prized additions, and it’s easy to see why. Unless you were OK with dropping those annoying little vowels from the name of your app, it’s gotten pretty difficult to snag a decent domain name over the years. There’s no sign that the app explosion is going to slow down any time soon, so a relevant TLD was bound to be a hot commodity.
Plenty of companies felt that way, too. Google wasn’t the only major player who wanted in on .app; Amazon was in on the action early on, but ultimately no one else wanted the domain quite a badly as Google. Amazon decided to spend their money elsewhere, dropping $5 million on .buy and another $2.2 million on .spot.
.app wasn’t the only domain that Google wanted to lock up. When ICANN started accepting applications, the folks in Mountain View had their eyes on a hundred others, too. Some they were after to protect existing products, like .chrome and .youtube. Other were less specific, like .home, .cloud, and .site.
The final results of the auction won’t be announced by ICANN until April or May. Google probably won’t end up taking home every TLD that was on their shopping list, but clearly .app was the big prize they were after… and they've nailed that down.

Tim Cook says Apple Watch will replace your car keys

The Apple Watch will be available soon, and Apple CEO Tim Cook thinks you’ll be using it for a whole lot more than checking notifications or keeping tabs on your health. He thinks the Apple Watch could even replace your car keys.

Well, maybe not your car keys specifically. Cars that support CarPlay might be invited to the party. Then again, it’s also possible that the Apple Watch would only be compatible with the car they’re reportedly working on in-house. It wouldn’t be the first time that an Apple product was made only to work with other Apple products.

It could be a major convenience though, right? You’ll have to remember to charge your Apple Watch every night, if the rumors about its abysmal battery life turn out to be true. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself falling back on your trusty old keys or fob just like the good old days. How much of a convenience would the Watch really be then? If your vehicle has push-button start and a fob with a year-plus of battery life, certainly not much of one. But maybe the point isn’t to make the Watch a replacement for your fob or keys. Maybe it’s to complement them.

It’s a proven fact that Apple’s iOS kill switch has drastically reduced the number of iPhone thefts. What if the Watch acted as a second authentication factor that granted access to your vehicle and allowed you to start it? That could make your car much harder to steal, and there’s no denying that would be a pretty sweet “one more thing.”

Microsoft teases us with rollable tablets, wall-sized displays

What will the technology in your workplace, classroom, or home look like in the near future? A lot like today’s, Microsoft thinks, with a few important tweaks.

Think of a piece of technology that’s buzzworthy today, and you’ll find it in Microsoft’s video. There are aquatic drones, keyless smart locks, and wearables with flexible displays. There’s even a glasses-free holographic PC, no doubt a headset-free future version of what they recently kicked off with HoloLens.

Keyboards seem to have become somewhat of a rare breed, but the stylus will continue to play a role. Microsoft also figures that you’ll be able to rapidly recharge them with a brief press onto a wireless charging puck. We’ll also be stuffing rollable tablets into our messenger bags, having video chats with loved ones on displays the size of an entire sheet of drywall, and be bombarded with data from all angles.Even grandpa’s knee implant will give you updates about how the rehabilitation process is coming along. Hopefully we’ll be able to process that avalanche of data more easily, though.

Microsoft certainly tries to make it look that way in the video. Bits of information flow seamlessly between screens, just by placing them nearby and gently swiping from one to the other (something they’ve played around with before, with the original Surface table PCs). Sharing and collaborating with colleagues looks just as painless in Microsoft’s modern workplace.
There is one thing that Microsoft apparently feels won’t be part of our technological future: the bezel. We’re not talking minimal bezels like on Dell’s XPS 13, Microsoft’s future PCs are a pure image from edge to edge. Presumably that means there are further innovations in palm rejection tech on the way, too.
